Telstra Makes the Social Media Call

Telstra, the largest provider of telecom services down-under in Australia, is making a tremendous statement on the overall long term impact of social media in a large corporate environment.

With over 40,000 employees, it’s a safe bet that a majority of their staff are involved in some way with social media. The question is, how does a company that large monitor and encourage the use of that media by their employees effectively?

As more and more people get into the social media revolution, it’s becoming obvious that a set of guidelines on effective — and more importantly — responsible use of this medium is critical.  And Telstra is not only effectively regulating their employees’ use of social media, they’re doing it in a way in which their target audience will understand and listen: by using social media to communicate their social media policy.
